((This is set...eh...probably a day after the posts in his room.))

Zen stood in the doorway of Near's room with a slightly nervous air.

"Near-san? I thought you might like to go and get some clothes that fit you..."

Near opened the door with a slight smile.
"That might be a good idea..." He said smiling as he held out his hands which were hidden inside the sleeves of the sweater he was currently wearing. It was safe to say that Near wasn't as tall as L... he practically drowned in the sweater.

She laughed softly and rolled up the sleeves for him.

"I know a good place....let's go."

When Zen rolled up his sleeves he was having difficulties resisting the urge to take hold of her hand.
Instead their hands slightly brushed after which he nodded his head and followed her outside.

Zen talked a little as they walked down the streets of Tokyo, but internally she was worried. Why had she talked him into coming with her? What if Kira saw his face somehow?

She didn't notice a boy wearing bright goggles trailing behind them.

"You seem worried." It wasn't a question.

His eye fell on a piece of clothing in a window of one of the many shops.
"Let's go in here." He said while taking her hand and guiding her inside.
He wanted to buy what he had seen in the window... but just what does a guy need with a dress??

He frowned when he noticed that the guy that had been following them for a while also entered the same store.

"Near-san....why are we in a dress store?"

She wanted to feel his forehead and check his temperature, but that may have been awkward.
Her eyes fell upon the boy with the goggles and she smiled.

"You found us."

"A little," Zen said with relief.

"I thought that since you were sort of moving in, it might be good to have more security against Kira...and Matt's really good with that sort of thing. I just...didn't want anything to happen to you."

She mumbled the last part sheepishly.

Outside the shop, a crowd was gathering and music could be heard, more specifically a drum beat, guitar playing and lyrics to Linkin Park's 'New Divide.'

"Well, I wouldn't want you to worry about me." He replied smiling. "Excuse me for a minute... there's something I need to ask."
With that he walked to clerk that was standing a short distance away from them.

Zen watched him go with a small smile on her lips.

"So you like him, don't you?" Matt whispered in her ear.

"Shush..." she said softly.

The music continued but the beat and the song had changed to some older rock, namely 'Barracuda' by Heart.

Near watched Zen from the corner of his eye.
"Excuse me... I saw this dress in the window which I would like to buy for that girl over there." He said while pointing at Zen as inconspicuously as possible. "I just don't know her size."

The female clerk looked at him with a smile.
"How adorable... but are you sure you can afford them, our collection is not very cheap."
"Don't worry about that... just make sure she doesn't see the dress."

A few moments later Near joined Zen and the other guy.
A bag with a neatly packed dress in his left hand.

Zen smiled at Near as he returned.

"I've told Matt where to go and he's going to go outfit a few things..."

She looked curiously at the bag.

"What did you buy?"

"Care to take a walk?" Near asked casually as he took her hand.
He didn't bring up the item in the bag until they reached the small park across the store.
He sat down on the edge of the fountain.
"I... uhh... heard your birthday was a few days ago. I wanted to give you something."

And maybe he wanted to buy this... just because. Was it strange he wanted to buy something for her without having a reason? He only hoped she actually wore dresses.

Another blush graced her cheeks as he held her hand.

"You....you didn't have to buy me anything," she mumbled.

She looked pleased, nonetheless.
